This easy-to-install kit uses factory connections and mounting points. With the relay kit, the electrical current travels straight from the battery to the headlight circuit at the fuse box, greatly reducing the load on the headlight switch and the failure-prone column switch. In addition, more power is supplied to the headlights for maximum light output. Maximum of 100-watt bulbs recommended.
With LED lights becoming more available, the current draw is not as much of a concern as with halogens. However, LEDs are voltage sensitive, so it is still a good idea to install relays to supply full voltage since supplied voltage is often compromised by the switch contacts. Also, LEDs have an “instant-on” characteristic, which causes a higher and faster current spike as the contacts are switched. Relays move this spike away from the column switch, applying a softer “ramp-up” in current to the switch as it actuates the relay coil.
Relays are traditional cube style. You can get replacement relays at any parts store so there is no worry of being stranded waiting for special parts in case of (rare) failure.
Detailed instructions are included.
Quality Zettler brand relays (manufactured in Asia). Optional German manufactured relays are also available.
Note: Pop-up headlights (slant nose) 911 will not operate properly with the headlight kit without additional wiring changes (instructions to do so are not included due to variance in conversions).
